Victory Over Virus

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

I had to nix that negative news. I cannot listen to this stuff everyday - how many people are sick and how many have died. Don't get me wrong - that is important - but over and over and over again is too much for me. All the negative news makes it easy to lose faith and live in fear. Let's talk about the Good News!

I was reading something recently about boosting our immune system. I believe in doing a lot of natural things. We know that a strong immune system will keep our bodies healthy and fit as well as fight sickness. A strong immune system helps both our physical and mental health. It improves cognitive function which improves our mood and memory. Our immune system is compromised when we are sick, tired and stressed. When our immune system is weakened, this is when something can invade our body causing us to become ill.

I think good news is what we need to boost our immune system and it will help us from letting fear invade our bodies! God's good news definitely helps our physical and mental health! Even in times of uncertainty and a pandemic, Christians can have confidence in God's Word. 2 Timothy 3: 16, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." They can know Who is in charge. Revelation 1: 17, "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid.I am the First and the Last.'" They know God is the one steady in our life! He never changes! Hebrews 13: 8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

When we boost our spiritual health with the truth we begin to see God in our lives. We begin to remember the former things of our life and the former things in the Bible. We know there is no one like Him. Isaiah 46: 9-10, "Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'" And best of all we remember He is our Father. John 1: 12-13, "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name,he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God."

Through this pandemic, God can bring many blessings. People, everywhere, may be called to repent and realign their lives with God. Many people will reprioritize their lives, putting God higher than before. Many people will realize God's mercy. Many people are gathering together to worship in their homes for the first time. Friends and neighbors are coming together to care for one another. When we share the good news of God's mercy, we can rest in Him. Look at Facebook and you see people replacing fear with faith. They are praying for each other. And for those who love God, He will bring good from this situation. Romans 8: 28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

While we listen to the medical experts and take appropriate actions, we need to replace our fear with faith. Let's pray for our nation and ask God to protect us. Let's live Philippians 4: 6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God,which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Whether you are having anxiety over health reports or financial reports, by centering your life on Jesus and keeping focus on Him, you can calm those anxieties. Isaiah 26: 3, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." God is bigger than the Corona virus!

Nix the negative news and share the good news!
