I am so easily distracted and then I have guilt and shame which is another distraction. This is what happens when I do not make my study time a priority. God gives me ideas to write about all the time and I make a note but don't stop right then. It is much easier to write when He is giving me the words.
God wants our devotion, not our distractions. I think many of us get distracted by world news, job issues, financial stress, relationships, guilty voices in our head and so many others. Distractions are like weeds in our hearts that suffocate God’s Word. Jesus made God a priority. Mark 1: 35-39, "And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, and they found him and said to him, 'Everyone is looking for you.' And he said to them, 'Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.' And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons." Jesus gave himself to God in prayer.
Sometimes we just take from God, wanting something or needing comfort, much like children want things from their parents. When we let the distractions go we can praise God and thank Him for how GOOD He is! Hebrews 5: 7, "During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission." Jesus shared His feelings with God and then surrendered and trusted God's direction for His life.
"It's not that God is silent, it's that our distractions are sometimes too loud."
