Seeking God

Not everyone that knows God seeks him. This is unfortunate. It’s not enough just to know him, one must love him enough to diligently seek him. One must pursue Him! The Holy Spirit loves it when you pursue him. This is what makes you different from others.

I think that is why I love nature so much! I seek God when I go to water whether it is the beach or a huge lake. At one time I lived on a small pond and every time I sat outside I met God there. I probably enjoyed that pond more than anyone. The water brought me peace. I loved watching the turtles sun on the bank. I loved the ducks flying in formation and then landing on the water skidding to a halt. I loved watching the baby ducks and the egrets. I learned that God was already there waiting for me to seek Him. When I went there expecting to see Him I saw Him. The more I did this the more my heart desired to seek Him.

The God-size hole in our heart gives us the desire to seek God. Everything else tries to pull us away - our sinful nature, the world and the devil. We are told over and over that we are to seek God. And over and over we are told if we seek Him we WILL find Him. Deuteronomy 4: 29, "But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find Him, if you search after Him with all your heart and with all your soul." Proverbs 8: 17, "I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me." Jeremiah 29: 13, "You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart."

Even when things are not going well you have to seek Him. We can seek God to receive guidance, wisdom, knowledge and insight for our next steps. Because He knows everything these are our best directions! Jeremiah 29: 12-14, "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. "

Matthew 6: 33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Our faith gives us the desire to seek Him all of our lives. He wants us to seek him daily in prayer and Scripture. Through the Holy Spirit we can be comforted by His presence. If we seek God we will be blessed with peace and joy no matter the situation.
