Contentment

We were tired of waiting for the lot to build on and we asked God to bring the perfect house at the perfect time, just show off, God! After I moved in I realized just how God showed off! He brought things that I love! We are on a hill and can enjoy a pond with ducks, herons and turtles from our large front porch! What I loved about the house we were building was the double doors at the front and the wall of glass doors at the back and this house has both. There is no one in front of us so we have extra street parking. I have a black and white kitchen, a big bathtub, a closet named, "Jill's Boutique" and great neighbors! I never asked for this nor thought it possible but God showed off! When a neighbor asked how we got such a steal on this house I told her, God showed off!


For the past two years we lived in a small space with not much stuff and it was freeing and I was content. Hebrews 13: 5, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have..." Where I lived was not my identity. Sometimes we think we would be more content if we had what someone else has, or if we were smarter, better looking, more successful, more money and the list goes on! The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4: 12- 13, "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength”


Contentment isn’t based on what we have; it is based on who we know. I believe whatever God brought me I would have found ways that He showed off. There have been times He has brought less than I expected but I always trust Him in however He takes care of me because He sees the future. Hebrews 13: 5, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'" As much as I love my new home, I never want to be a slave to a home or material things. Jesus warned us that when we have treasures on earth, moths and rust destroy and thieves can break in and steal. Psalm 23: 1, "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing." If the Lord is my shepherd then I will be satisfied and fulfilled in Him.
