Where Everybody Knows Your Name

What I loved most about my job was the connection to people going through tough times through my weekly letter. During Covid, my uncle was in a memory care facility so I began writing words of encouragement and jokes. We all need to laugh! Proverbs 17: 22, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Four years later I prayed over and send out almost 200 letters/emails a week. I came to love those people, many I had never met. The ages ranged from 20-100 and some were sick, grieving, lonely or just a tough time. The responses from my farewell letter broke my heart.

As several people said they or their loved one felt a kinship with me. That is because I was real with them and they got to know my family and I. Some started going to church, some came to a small group and some this was their only connection to a church. Matthew 28: 19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

I shared with you the theme song from Cheers. “Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You want to be where you can see Our troubles are all the same You want to be where everybody knows your name”! We all like for someone to know our name but we also like to know that we all have troubles. I am amazed at how God brings people together, going through the same things. When we deal with this cold, dark world, it can be easy to feel hopeless. When we spend time in fellowship, God makes us strong. Matthew 18: 20, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Sharing with other's helps us both. Hebrews 10: 24-25, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
