Bumps In The Road

As Mike was moving his office next door he had called to give the dates to transfer his phone and internet. What did they do? They transferred it that day.....three weeks early. Mike spent a week telling and retelling the story with the company. You know the drill.....probably how you feel when you call about your internet, your cell phone company, insurance company, etc. A two hour ride and we spent 3/4 of the time on speaker with them. Everyone is sorry and everyone is going to fix it.

The company agreed on Sunday from 12-2 and they would call 30 minutes before they were coming. They would call anywhere from 12-2. After church Mike left to go to the office. At 1:30 he called and there was a request to change to 3:00. We were upset but not surprised. When the nice guy came he said it would be at least an hour so Mike left and I stayed. Mike was getting our boat out of the water and taking it to a man to paint the bottom. This would be Mike's first time to trailer the boat.

Mike was looking in the rear view mirror when he noticed the bimini top was gone. He pulled over about the time a small truck skidded in beside him. he said it was a girl saying his top was in the road and had hit someone. Mike had no where to turn the boat around so he asked her for a ride back - about a mile. He got in her truck and heard Christian music blaring. He asked her if she was a believer and she said yes and they fist bumped. Mike said he hoped that would make her feel better about giving a stranger a ride. She went on to tell him that she had not been to church in a while and she used to sing in the church band. She said it had been a heck of a year (in different words) and one of her sons had died. Then she told him, "I have to tell you I just smoked a joint and took a shot of crown." Mike asked her if she wanted him to drive. He talked to her about going back to church.

Long story short: He will have to spend the day on the phone again tomorrow about the internet and phones. The bemini top caused a couple thousand dollars damage to the car behind Mike.

So as we discussed in Sunday school this morning. As a Christian we should work on our reactions to things. Not only for us but you always have an audience. Thankfully, Mike was able to witness to this lady for that one mile! I do not believe this was a coincidence. I believe if Mike was going to have to have an accident due to free will, then God would bring good from it. Romans 8: 28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." I am sure seeds were planted.

After I cried - notice I often say, "after", I texted Mike and told him to start thanking God for what He was doing for the accident, for the phones and for the internet. Things could have been a lot worse. Thanks be to God that no one was hurt! After I changed my reaction I felt better and looked at the blessings. God always goes before us. He was there the whole time but we have to look for Him! Deuteronomy 31: 8, "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

Trials push Christians to God.
