Yes I Am A Hypocrite

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

"McDonald's can mess your order up 101 times and you still keep going back...one things goes wrong at church and you quit." It seems people like to find fault at the church. How many times have people called Christians hypocrites? Yes I am a hypocrite. I am not perfect and I do not want to be a stumbling block for anyone.

If you are looking for perfect people do not come to a church. A church is a hospital for sinners. We go to church because we know we need forgiveness and encouragement that only Jesus can give. We need to be encouraged by our Christian community. If we are honest we all struggle with inconsistencies between faith and life. The apostle Paul said in Romans 7: 19, “I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing”

As Christians we should reflect the love, grace, and mercy of God. Our actions should be a testimony of our faith and we should show a sincere relationship with God. We must constantly remind ourselves of our need for God’s grace and forgiveness. Because we are all broken and imperfect, we should reflect humility and show our need for God. Matthew 23: 23, "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

"Practice what you preach or change your speech!"
