Here Comes The Sun

Remember the Beatles song, "Here Comes The Sun"? That is how I felt this morning, stilI in bed, when the sun came shining through the blinds. "t's been a long cold lonely winter...it seems like years since it's been here." I miss spring and summer so much but right now I just need sun! In the past, when visiting Sarah, even in the mist, we go to fun places and do things. Everything is shut down here, now, so it is very different. It has rained since I got here and is cold. Yesterday I was thinking I better take my vitamin D because I haven't had any sunshine at all! When that sun shone through my window, my whole outlook on today. It is amazing what a little sun can do! I thought I am going to write about sun today.

While I was in bed, I read one of my devotionals for today and it spoke of sunlight. "Sunlight is a symbol of the light that God gives to us - how vital and powerful both are for our lives." Genesis 1: 3-4, "Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness." I thought I know I am going to write about sun today Then it rained, and I was not happy. But then it came back out and I was happy. I don't need science to tell me that sunlight is a natural antidepressant that promotes the production of serotonin in the brain. The flip side is that long periods of darkness or overcast weather is proven to cause depression. I believe that because it effects my moods in two days.

Since I did not know how long the sun would stay out, I put on my coat and walked to the grocery store. It was so wonderful to be outside. I thanked God over and over as I walked. There was a definite chill in the air but there was a warmth from the sun. I could feel the sunshine chasing away the clouds of weariness as it overtook me. I wanted to soak up all I could. I found myself smiling, feeling refreshed and revitalized. All because of the sunshine! Psalm 19: 1, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

When the sun doesn't shine, I am looking for it. When I don't spend time with God, I am looking for something and Much like spending time with the Son, we feel better when we spend time in God's light! Psalm 37: 3-7, "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes." No wonder we feel better when we spend time in God's light!

God is our light. Isaiah 60: 1, 19, "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you...The sun will not more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory." So even when the sun is not shining, we can find the light. He is with us! He benefits our life even more than the sun's light benefits all of natural life! Bask in His glory and grace!
