The star on our tree can remind us of the hope we have in Jesus. The brightness of the star is associated with the light of Christ which shines in the darkness. It is the light that guides us and shows us the right path. The brightness is a symbol of victory of good over evil.
The wise men followed the star that God had placed in the sky to find Baby Jesus. It guided them to where Mary and Joseph were with Jesus. Matthew 2: 9-11, " After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh." The wise men had come to worship Jesus! They gave Him these precious gifts that were expensive!
The longevity of the star proves that it was not a comet or a meteor. Because the wise men were traveling from Persia, the star had to appear each night for several months in order to lead them all the way. The star had to move constantly, leading them to Jerusalem and then to Bethlehem where the star hovered over the Christ Child! That star shone in the sky for many months. Then it was gone. We had Jesus - the true star!
Wise men still seek Him!
