Who Are You Listening To

Around 1976 a woman predicted an earthquake in Wilmington. Our school had earthquake drills and I was petrified. My dad was going to be out of town on that particular day and I did not want to leave my mom. I remember Mom telling me we don't listen to people like that but all I could see was me alone falling in a giant crack to nowhere!

How do we discern God’s voice from the adversary’s?

1. What’s the message?

2. What’s the outcome?

3. Who gets the glory?

The message was consistent with God’s Word and with Samuel’s previous prophecies.

1 Samuel 28: 19, “The LORD will hand over both Israel and you to the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me.” Samuel gave God the glory. Saul was a wreck knowing the hour of his death. He could not eat and his strength was gone. He even consulted a medium for guidance. 1 Samuel 28: 7, "Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her." 1 Chronicles 10: 13-14, "Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse."

No one knows the future and there is danger in listening just for fun. I cannot tell you my children's astrology signs and do not read horoscopes. No one knows the future and there is danger in reading them just for fun. If something is predicted and happens that day, by chance, you will desire to read it again and so on. God is there to guide us and He knows what is best.
