Sometimes I have an issue waiting for things. Why do we always have to wait? In the midst of our waiting, God is working. He is increasing our trust. We are reminded that we are not in control and at God's mercy! And we have no power to change that! We were born wanting to control, that is why a baby cries when they want something. I heard someone say that waiting pries our fingers from the ledge and confronts us with an uncomfortable question: Will we give up on ourselves and trust God?
We don't always think we have idols but when we feel like we are wasting time waiting on God, it is because we are accomplishment driven and our culture measures everything by productivity. What we get done defines our worth and that can become our idol. Ouch! We can’t always maximize efficiency if we’re waiting on God. Galatians 6: 9, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Waiting begins to change us when we are not focusing on ourselves or our accomplishments. We become more humble as we realize how out of control we really are and our weaknesses are exposed. Because we are not in charge we cannot boast. God gets all the glory! Psalm 8:3-4, "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?"
