What Will Heaven Be Like

Yesterday a friend of mine went to Heaven. She was at peace and ready knowing where she was going. While my heart breaks for her family I am so happy for her. She will never have to know cancer again. She will never hurt physically or emotionally again. She will never be sad again. No more tears. Revelation 21: 4, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

So last night I just kept thinking about what Heaven is like. I had many emotions yesterday on many different levels and there are things I do not understand but I know one thing for sure! Heaven is going to be wonderful - a true paradise! When my Dad died seven years ago, I read many books about Heaven trying to figure out what Dad was doing. These are my thoughts from my studying. I will start with what Heaven will not have: suffering, funerals, death, missing children, rape, murder, worry, depression, wars, unemployment, anger, locks, mourning, pain, boredom, illness, bills, weeds, drunkenness, mental illness, cliques, temptation to immorality, hidden agendas, betrayals, etc. We won't have churches because we won't have to go somewhere to be in God's presence. We will live in God's presence! I believe we will worship in everything we do!

Matthew 5: 8, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." To see God's face we must be without sin. When we get to Heaven we will be made whole with new bodies and renewed minds. We will be without sin. I believe we will be in such awe when we look into God's face that we will wonder if we ever even knew joy before.

Revelation 22: 4, "They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever." There will be no more darkness because there cannot be dark where there is light and God is Light!

I believe we will see for the first time because we will be seeing through God's eyes. i cannot imagine how beautiful nature will be. I believe we will love others the way God does. We will see beauty in everything and everyone like never before. We will be full of energy and eager to work for God's glory! We will spend eternity worshiping, exploring and serving God

Revelation 14: 13, "Then I heard a voice from heaven say, 'Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.' 'Yes,' says the Spirit, 'they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.'” Hebrews 4: 10, "...for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his." I believe we will get to rest in Heaven just as God did on the seventh day.

John 14: 2, "My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?" This is exciting because He is preparing a place for me. It sounds like I will have my own space and it will be prepared by Him! Think about God caring so much that He is preparing a place for you? And one day He will show it to you! It will be more than we can imagine because He knows us better than we know ourselves! Luke 16: 9, "I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings." I think there will be places for us to enjoy companionship with our friends.

Luke 6: 21-23, "Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. 'Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.'" No one will be hungry. No one will cry and we will all laugh! These are promises of Jesus!

I do believe those who have gone on before us see what is going on in God's Kingdom on earth. I think they cheer us on but they are not sad because they do not see time like we do on earth. A little bit of suffering on earth is nothing compared to eternity. They see the bigger picture. I believe we will see friends and meet all who are there. I cannot wait to meet Mary, Moses, Jobe, Rahab, Joseph, the woman at the well, Mary Magdalene, and Hosea! Think about that!

And as if that is not enough the Bible tells us a little bit about what Heaven will look like. Revelation 21: 21, "The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass." We are told in Hebrews 11: 10, "For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God." We cannot imagine a beautiful city without traffic and pollution, let alone one built of gold.

Our loved ones who have gone before us are experiencing pure joy. Jesus said where they are is so wonderful that He called it "Paradise" We are told that we will be brought back together in a wondrous reunion and we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4: 17-18, "After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words."

I am so grateful that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and that I have the assurance of spending eternity with Him! I cannot imagine losing loved ones without this peace. Because I know where my friend is I can truly celebrate her life and know that I will see her again one day!

To receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, pray this prayer:

Lord Jesus, I can't make it through life on my own. I sin.  I have done bad stuff.   I know there's nothing in the world I can do to make myself acceptable to You. But I know that You love me so much that You were willing to die on the cross for me.  That's a grace so amazing I cannot understand it; I can only accept it. And I do accept this free gift.  I know that from this moment on, I am saved. I am a child of God. And I give the rest of my life to serving You and experiencing the joy that only You can offer.  Fill me now with your Spirit.  I thank You and praise You!  Amen.
