We Were Made To Work

Many people think work is a product of the fall but God designed us to work from the beginning. We work because our Creator works, and we’re made in His image. His first work assignment was to Adam. Genesis 2:15, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” This was prior to the fall (sin), and shows us that in a perfect world, we would still work. Work is a gift from God, not a curse.
The apostle Paul writes in Colossians 3:23–24, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Paul is writing to slaves but this applies to all Christians. This mindset improves the quality of our work, regardless of our earthly boss's character.
In the beginning of the Bible we see God is a Worker. Genesis 2:2, "By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work," When God created the world, He was working. Genesis 1: 26, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule." Charles Spurgeon said, "The best and wisest thing in the world is to work as if it all depended upon you, and then trust in God, knowing that it all depends upon him.”
