Wanting Wisdom?

"If an old dude ever gives you advice while peeling an apple with a pocket knife and eating pieces right off the blade, you should probably take it." I saw this on social media and thought of Mr. Hamer who I worked with years ago. Every day for lunch he would eat his pack of lunch meat and cut an apple with his pocket knife. Often times, he would come sit and talk with me during his lunch. He had kids my age and he always gave me advice.

I tell my girls that you can have all the degrees in the world, you can have the highest IQ test but wisdom is better than all of that. If you don't believe me look at this world. 1 King 3: 9, "So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

King Solomon said in Proverbs 9: 10, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”. He knew he deeply needed wisdom from God because he knew himself and he feared the Lord. Proverbs 3: 13-14, “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.” When we have God's wisdom, we see things differently, more like God sees them. James 3: 17, "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere."

If we want to live an abundant life of peace, love and mercy, we need to ask God for His wisdom. James 1: 5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." God never wants us to suffer from a lack of knowledge. His wisdom will lead us to the abundant life He has planned for us.
