Our staff participated in a simple outreach project at a local elementary school during EOG (end of grade) testing. We held signs that greeted children as they were dropped off for school. We were there to encourage students, teachers and parents while holding signs that said, “you can do it”, “you’ve got this”, “two thumbs up”, “u rock” and “u r awesome”. We smiled and told them to have a great day, no religious message, just encouragement!

Our schools are rich, rich mission fields! John 4:35, “Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest., “ We have a tremendous responsibility to be the salt and light God called us to be. Showing care and love, without preaching, does this. Isaiah 55:11, “...so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” I believe God uses this simple outreach for His glory! Like us, children would rather be shown than preached to.

Why the little children? John the Baptist and Jesus were aware of their missions at an early age. Jesus encouraged the children to come unto Him. Luke 18:16, “But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Jesus calls us to care for children and not send them away as insignificant. Childhood and early teen years are most important for making a decision for Jesus. Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
