I just read this story from Our Daily Bread and wanted to share. "Apollo 11 landed on the moon on Sunday, July 20, 1969. Most remember astronaut Neil Armstrong's first words as he stepped onto the moon's surface:"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." But few know about the first meal eaten on the moon. Dennis Fisher reports that Buzz Aldrin, the NASA astronaut had taken aboard the spacecraft a tiny pyx provided by his Catholic pastor. Aldrin sent a radio broadcast to Earth asking listeners to contemplate the events of the day and give thanks. Then, blacking out the broadcast for privacy, Aldrin read, 'I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit.' Then, silently, he gave thanks for their successful journey to the moon and received Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, surrendering the moon to Jesus. Next, he descended on the moon and walked on it with Neil Armstrong."
My Granny loved to say, "you can run but you can't hide" when referring to the Lord. I thought of this when I read this story. You cannot even get away from Him on the moon. He is always with us! Always, wherever! I cannot imagine how special and overwhelming it would be to have communion on the moon. What a worship service. He is worthy to be praised! Can you imagine standing on the moon and praising God?! Psalm 18: 3, "I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies."
God goes everywhere we go! Matthew 28: 20, "...And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” When Jesus went to heaven, He sent His Spirit to be with us. His Spirit goes with us wherever we are, wherever we go. All the while, He is providing for us. James 1: 17, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." He promises to give us everything we need. Philippians 4: 19, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." He is our comforter. 2 Corinthians 1:3, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort..." Even when I do not know which way I am going God is there with me, protecting me. Psalm 139: 5, "You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me."
Read the following with your name in place of Jill. God has said, "I will live with Jill and walk among Jill. I will be Jill's God and she will be my daughter." Leviticus 26: 12, "I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people." He also says in 2 Corinthians 6: 16, "Do not be afraid for the Lord your God goes with you, Jill; He will never leave you or forsake you." Deuteronomy 31: 6 "So do not fear Jill, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am Jill's God. Isaiah 41: 10, "I will strengthen Jill and help you; I will uphold Jill with my righteous right hand."
Go in peace today knowing that you do not go alone. You have your Heavenly Father with you wherever you go! Even if you go to the moon!
