To Tarry

To tarry means to wait, to stay in expectation and to abide in the presence of the Lord. Why does God want us to have seasons of waiting? When we stop waiting on the things of this earth and start waiting with expectation of the Lord we are able to hear the voice of God. Habakkuk 2: 3, "For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."
Jesus tarried for 30 years before He started his three year ministry. He waited in prayer, in expectation, until it was the appointed time. Jesus told the disciples to tarry. Acts 1: 4, "On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: 'Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.'"
In the same way, men have been tarrying for 2000 years for our King to come. How do we spend our times tarrying? Do we encourage others who are tarrying? Do we pray and listen for God's guidance? Are we going to be ready when God says it is time? Are we using this time to prepare?
In the meantime God will tarry upon us. Even when we reject Him, He will tarry upon us! He waits for us to decide to call out to Him, to live for Him, to seek His face. Let's ask God to teach us to tarry upon Him and to give us the strength to wait. When the waiting seems long, let us be appreciative of the abundant time that He has blessed us with. Let us praise Him while we tarry.
