This Is So Cool

since we talked about the donkey and his importance yesterday, did you know that all donkeys have a cross on their back? I never knew that until this past Easter when Ellie Mae visited our church. Her picture is below. The cross is a dorsal stripe of darker hair down the length of the back crossed by a shoulder stripe across the top of the body at the withers.

Jesus chose a humble animal, the donkey, to walk into the city of Jerusalem. Jesus chose the donkey to show His humility because many people think of them as "lower class". Jesus saw them as equal. Donkeys are plain and humble. They are good servants to humans.

Here is how the legend goes: Grief stricken by the sight of Jesus on the cross, the donkey turned away but could not leave. It was then that the shadow of the cross fell upon the shoulders and back of the donkey, and there it stayed. All donkeys have borne the sign of the cross on their backs since that day.

Coincidence?
