There Is Power In The Name of Jesus

I had always heard that there is power in the name of Jesus, but I never studied it or gave it much thought till about 20+ years ago. I was watching a true story on one of the Christian stations about a family traveling. The car broke down and the father left his wife and two little girls locked in the car on the side of the interstate while he walked for help.

Shortly after the husband was out of sight a man approached the car. At that time they did not know that he was a serial killer looking for his next victims. After getting in the car by force the mother said, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus." It was much more dramatic than I am saying but the man left. When the police realized who it was they were shocked this lady and her girls were alive! I wept when I watched this story. It was then that I taught my girls that if they ever find themselves in trouble they are to rebuke that person in the name of Jesus.

In the Christian movie, "The War Room," when the lady's purse was being snatched and she rebuked the robber in the name of Jesus, he looked at her and ran off. If we have the Holy Spirit living in us then we have been given authority and power in name of Jesus to rebuke.

Jesus rebukes in the following verses. Matthew 8: 26 "He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” Matthew 17: 18 "Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.” Luke 4: 39 "He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.” When Jesus rebuked someone or something, he demanded on behalf of God’s authority, that it cease immediately. Winds quieted, demons exorcised and fevers dismissed. Psalm 104: 7, "At Your rebuke they fled, at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away." Proverbs 18: 10, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."

The name of Jesus saves! Not just as our deliverer and redeemer, but also as our protector.

If you were in imminent danger would you call on the Lord? We may not have time for a full prayer and that is fine, we just have to call on the name of Jesus, like a strong tower, to run into his righteousness and save us! We must know the name and power of Jesus. There will be times in our life that we will need to call on His name!
