The Living Word

Scripture tells us that the Word of God sustains man. Luke 4: 4, "Jesus answered, 'It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.'" Matthew 4: 4, "Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" God is comparing His Word to food for sustenance. We should want to crave scripture. When I am thirsty the only thing that quenches my thirst is water. The more I drink the more I crave. This is how the Living Word is. Do not become dehydrated!

This is our only source of knowing the truth about God. 2 Timothy 2:9, "for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained." God's Word gives us the freedom to accomplish His will. 1 Peter 1: 23 says His word gives us spiritual birth. "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God." Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever." It is forever the Living Word!

The Bible is the living Word of God because it is our message from God. Everything we need to know is in the Bible. When you some a sinner repent and turn to Jesus you see the Living Word of God in action. This changed life witnesses to the living, active power of the Bible. The living Word is active in the lives of those who receive it. The psalmist said, the person who meditates on and delights in the Word will be “like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.” Psalm 1: 2-3
