The Devil Don't Mess With Those He's Already Got

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

In 1996 I was on a spiritual retreat weekend when I heard something I have never forgotten. Lynn, our spiritual director, friend and mentor, for years, was giving her testimony. She had had a lot of bad things happen to her and her family. Heartbreaking, heavy stuff! She said someone said to her one day, "Lynn, why you reckon all this bad stuff happens to you?" Without missing a beat, Lynn replied, "the devil don't mess with those he's already got!"

I am remembering this as I know I am under attack. I posted yesterday how I am under attack but the good news is I know why I am under attack. This ministry is a threat to the devil and he wants me to believe because of all of my circumstances I am not going to be able to do it! He is wrong! God is my strength and He will fight my battles! 2 Chronicles: 20: 15, "This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s." I knew the attacks would come but my God is big. Deuteronomy 3:22, "Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you.”

John 10: 10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Even Satan knows his time to get us is short so he works hard. Revelation 12: 12, "He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.” When we put our trust in Jesus, He gives us the power to overcome Satan’s attacks. When we let Jesus guide us, no attack from Satan can knock us off our feet. And the best news is that nothing can separate us from God. Romans 8: 38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Thanks be to God!
