It was 4:30 am and I could not sleep. Nothing negative just lots of things on my mind and I couldn't seem to turn it off. Once I lay there with my eyes open and start "writing" in my head I get up. I came into the office and Stephen Stanley's song, "Rest in the Father" was playing. I heard, "Lay your worries down. You can find rest in the Father."
Psalm 62: 1, "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.” I cannot find true rest on my own. I can only find true rest in God that includes the hope and peace that only He can offer, no matter what is going on in our lives! Why do I find it so hard to take a break to rest in His Presence? Often times it is a matter of no time, conflicting priorities which bring on guilt. Genesis 2: 2-3, "By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” God rested! Mark 4: 38, "Jesus was inside the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The followers went and woke him. They said, 'Teacher, don’t you care about us? We are going to drown!'” Jesus rested during storms! Mark 1: 35, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Jesus got up early to be alone with His Father.
The story of the sisters, Mary and Martha, Martha is busy preparing everything for Jesus and Mary sits at his feet. Martha is upset her sister is not helping. Luke 10: 41-42, "But the Lord answered her, 'Martha, Martha, you are getting worried and upset about too many things. Only one thing is important. Mary has made the right choice, and it will never be taken away from her.'” I find that sometimes I am so busy doing church work that I don't rest in Him. As I was reminded this morning I need to lay my worries down and rest in my Father!
