Stay In Your Lane

I have never thought of myself as competitive but the other morning someone was swimming laps beside of me. I had been my usual slow and steady so I can finish my 45 minutes. Immediately, I felt myself speed up and I noticed when my heart sped up! We had an empty lane between us and I began weaving and losing focus. I thought of a friend who always said, "stay in your lane." This phrase, in a work environment, means to focus on your own responsibilities. It is a slang term that means to mind your own business or stick to what you know and are good at. It also applies to me in the pool!
Later in the week I was upset by a meeting that had not gone like I wanted. I cried and had a pity party for a few hours and then God told me I needed to surrender this to Him and trust Him to take care of. I felt terrible that I had not stayed in my lane and trusted Him to do what He is good at! The next morning, a new day, I felt much better and was trusting God. As I started my laps, slow and steady, He reminded me not to lose focus and stop competing. Get out of His way so He could work. Hebrews 12: 1-2, "...let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.."
By that afternoon, God had worked things out even better than I could have asked for. Ephesians 3: 20, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us..." He even added that little extra something that made me know it could only come from Him, another one of His many miracles! Thanks be to God! Stay in your lane!
