Sparkling In The Sun
As I celebrate Dad's birthday, today, I read a friendship book that I gave to him because he and my mom have always been two of my best friends One of the questions was, "when I think of "girls" night..." Haha! It was not hard at all to answer. Dad did not like to be left out! When all the moms and kids went to the lake, Dad went. We could not have gone without him if we wanted to. So I answered the question. "When I think of 'girls' night... I think of you being there. I think of you at White Lake. You hung in there to see the hair dyes and even got your toenails done by Sarah and Ivey, thinking you would remove it when they went to bed. The problem was they used glitter nail polish and you sparkled in the sun for months!"
This tiny sparkle reflected in the light brought back wonderful memories. My Dad did sparkle in the Son. Proverbs 4: 18, "The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day." I remember after my Dad went on a spiritual retreat, The Walk To Emmaus, when he returned, his love for the Lord had gone to new levels! Ephesians 5: 8, "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light." He oozed the light, it flowed out. He sparkled with gratefulness.
I don't think I ever realized that "sparkle" is in the Bible. Zechariah 9: 16, "The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown." Love this! It gives a whole new meaning to me! This verse is about God's return. A kings crown is his glory, the bigger and more sparkle, the better. God's people will be those jewels that sparkle and bring Him glory.
Sparkles, glitter and sequins aren't complicated. They just reflect light from the sun or a light bulb. But people reflect light from Jesus! John 8: 12, Jesus says, "I am the light of the world. As a Christian we are to show the Light of the world, Jesus, to others. We are to reflect His Light to others. It is His love that causes us to sparkle! Matthew 5: 14, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." My Dad sparkled for the Son! While I miss him, I know he really sparkles in the presence of Jesus! Let's be the sparkle.
