Sound Doctrine

The more I read and study, the more I get more concerned for our world. What concerns me the most is that if we do not know God's Word, how can we recognize when we are not hearing the Truth? 2 Timothy 4: 3, Paul is warning Timothy, "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." Paul is giving advanced-warning about deceit within the Church and cautions Timothy against false teachings.

The NKJV version uses the word, "itching". "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." Itching ears refer to when you want to hear things you desire. They want teachers that will assure them that all is well even when it is not. Jeremiah 6: 14, "They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace."

Churches are getting away from God's Word. Some no longer teach children Bible stories, instead, teach them about feelings. I see this prophetic word from Paul coming to pass. The Truth is not about feeling good. None of us are perfect and we need to be transformed. Deuteronomy 4: 2, "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you." We don’t change the message, the message changes us. We must be in the Word in order to guard ourselves the the schemes of Satan. Ephesians 6: 11, "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes."

Make sure you are listening to the Truth - Grace, sin and salvation and Jesus Christ!
