One Sunday I was talking to my buddy who is in charge of the chapel service where my mom lives. He mentioned that they were going to have to cancel service that Tuesday. He explained that while I had four people to preach each month there are four fifth Tuesdays. It is real important to me for these people to have consistency. Why wouldn't somebody step up? I told him I would be praying. I did. I asked God to nudge someone to step up.
By Sunday evening it did cross my mind that I could do it but it was Sunday night and I would have to have a "sermon" by Tuesday. Exodus 3: 11, "But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” It doesn't matter who we are, it matters WHO He is. Yes, I have other talks and things but, in the past, I spend time in prayer and preparation for what would encourage these residents and give them hope. I owed that to my mom, the others and especially God. So, I told Him if He was suggesting I do it then hurry and give me the words. He did! Mostly during the night so I could go ahead and offer Monday morning. Just like God was ready to equip Moses with the right words to say to encourage them and bring understanding, He did the same for me. 2 Corinthians 12:9, "But he said to me, 'my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."
When we say get somebody to do something, we are not talking about ourselves! But God keeps nudging us til we commit. He always equips us and provides His presence and His power. It is a decision! We can do His will or not, but one thing I have learned is that we are blessed by this process when we are obedient. By doing something without my usual time of prayer and preparation I leaned more on God, trusting Him and that helps my faith grow!
