Seek And Find

About twenty plus years ago my girls and I were trying to leave to meet friends in Myrtle Beach but I could no find my checkbook. I knew I had just had it at the grocery store and I called and it was not there. This was before debit cards and I needed it. I called the girls (when two or more are gathered in His name God is there) and we stood in the kitchen and I asked God to bring to mind where the checkbook was or to let me stumble upon it. Then I told them to go play and I was going to be in the kitchen and I would call them as soon as I found it. First thing I picked up to move was some meat in a plastic grocery bag. I felt something move - my checkbook!

Through the years I have gotten pretty good at remembering to ask God to help me find something but seeking Him is another thing. You know how much easier my life would be if I would seek God first? Jeremiah 29: 13, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." He tells us if we seek Him we will find Him. It's like after a while of suffering in my own ways, I trudge toward God, getting distracted all the way. When we seek God, we are discovering more about Him. We find ourselves in a deeper relationship with Him, going towards Him.

At time I feel this world is spinning out of control but I have to remind myself that God is still in charge. None of what is going on caught God off guard. No surprises for Him. And we are not helpless because God is on our side. As believers, He has not forgotten or forsaken us. Hebrews 13: 5, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." The more I seek God, the more natural it becomes. During hard times, the more quickly my focus goes to Him and the straighter my path is to Him. Even though our paths take twists, turns and detours we are still on the right path when we are seeking Him. This is not easy and it is a process and it takes time and effort on our part.

We need to be like David who said in Psalm 27: 8, "My heart says of you, 'Seek his face!' Your face, Lord, I will seek." There will be times when we don't feel God with us but He is still there. This is when we rely on our faith. And trust! Find strength in God and know that He is in full control! Seek God, trust God and praise God!
