Remission To Renewed

I have waited ten years for this month and it is finally here with many emotions! Ten years ago I heard these words, "you have breast cancer, at least stage 3, we'll know more in a couple of weeks when you have a bone and brain scan." "This will be the hardest year of your life." "Now is the time for you to gather the elders of your church together, lay hands on you and pray for you." "There is no cure for this." "I am scared for you, Jill." "You've probably only had this 6-8 weeks." My surgeon had Mike and Mom lay hands on me after an ultrasound, and asked God not to let my mother bury a child. At my preop appointment he asked me if I had talked to my girls about the fact that I might die.

The medical definition of remission is a temporary recovery. Cure is to eliminate with medical treatment. My daughter asked my doctor, "what is the difference between remission and cure?" His answer, "time". The definition of healed is to become healthy again. God answered that prayer. We asked God to get me to the right medical team where I would not just be another patient. As you can tell I love and trust my team and believe they love me. God also answered that prayer.

Two days later, surrounded by family and friends, my associate pastor, Margaret, read James 5: 14-15, "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven." The whole church surrounded me as she anointed me with oil and prayed. Then I prayed. The only part I remember is telling God, "I know You can heal me physically and that is what I want but not my will but Your will be done."

I had great physicians but now I was talking to the Great Physician! Matthew 19: 26, "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'" I believe that with all my heart and I did ten years ago. I believe I was healed that day! Mark 5: 34, "He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you.'" The definition of renewed is having been revived. This time with God was a revival! Purification! I know what statistics say and they can call this remission but I believe I have been healed and through that I have been renewed! Romans 12: 2, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

You may not see a way out of a situation but God still has a way. It may look impossible but God can do the impossible. It may look like your situation is never going to change, but in a split second God can completely resolve it. "Against all odds and impossibilities, our God is able."
