In life we have to learn how to deal with people that are not easy, mistreat, bully, betray, are always negative, etc. I believe God expects me to be nice but I am not to let someone influence me in a negative way, including bringing me down. For me you don't have to apologize- just act differently, and it is forgotten. One of my weaknesses is that after a while of being mistreated and no change, I am done. Not my circus, not my monkeys!
After no change and being mistreated over and over, I said, "really, God?! 7 x 70?! Matthew 18: 21-22, "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'" That doesn't seem fair! I went on to tell Him I think I am almost to that number! I have to be obedient because, like I heard growing up, God says, "because I said so!"
When we go through these tough times God wastes nothing! He teaches us to forgive, over and over. He teaches us how to bite our tongue and take the high road. He teaches us patience. He teaches us how not to treat people. He teaches us how to grow in Him. He teaches us how to lean on Him. He teaches us to trust Him. He knows we hurt even though we forgive. Jesus knows what it feels like to be betrayed. He knows and sees all and He can help us grow and work on our weaknesses. We can thank Him for the hard times with difficult people because that is how we grow. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
"Your nervous system will naturally feel calm around people with pure intentions and authentic energy - trust it."
