Quench Your Thirst

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

I drink a lot of water. I carry my water bottle around the house, in my car, wherever I go! It seems I stay thirsty. Mike has not been drinking as much water as he used to and mentioned this morning that he is doing a little better. I said, "I think the more you drink the thirstier you are." Then I said, "that is a blog." He said, "let me out of here!" I am not sure if he was talking about getting out of the house or getting out of my head!

Our body uses water to maintain many bodily functions. It helps create saliva. It helps regulate your body temperature. It helps with nutrient absorption. It helps excrete waste. It improves blood oxygen circulation. It protects your tissue, spinal cord and joints. Because our bodies loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it's important to rehydrate by by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water.

In the same way we need the living water. John 4: 14, "...but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” God has promised that we will never thirst again.

Jesus offered the woman at the well some water. Actually he was offering her living water. She doubted Him but Jesus keeps telling her that she will never thirst again. This is some kind of special water. This water can give one eternal life! This living water is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us understand God by giving us spiritual understanding. He (the Holy Spirit) leads us to Jesus. Helps us grow in Jesus. He lives in us and empowers us to live a Christian life. He transforms our lives and makes us new! Jesus is the living water!

We cannot have a full life without Jesus! A person without water cannot live very long. You can live a long time without food but not without water. If you have been craving peace or fullness in your life then you are really thirsty for Jesus. Whoever drinks of the water Jesus gives and grows in Him will have a full life!

My take on the more water I drink the more I crave is this: The more you grow in Jesus the more you want to grow in Jesus. The more you read scripture the more you want to read scripture. The more blessings you see in your life the more blessings you look for! Remember, we are fearfully and wonderfully made! This is having a full life!

Last night I decided I needed to rehydrate so I called a friend and went to the beach and sat and watched the ocean. The breeze was perfect and the sound of the ocean soothes me. That ocean never stops. It is always flowing. The ocean reminds me of God's living water flowing through my life. All of the blessings that flow through even if we do not see the blessings at that time. You trust and know He knows what is best. John 7: 38, "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them."

Revelation 22: 17, Jesus said, “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you. … Let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.” When you come to the water, there’s a satisfaction beyond anything words can describe. Come to the well that Jesus offers and drink of the living water that He gives! And you will never be thirsty again!

Last night watching the water flow and getting hydrated!
