Power of The Tongue

Mike turns on the tv in the morning and leaves it on all day, same channel. For years we started our day with one of the morning news shows until Covid and that was too negative so he changed it to Andy Griffith. Recently the news was on all day and I told him I cannot have that negativity on all day. The next morning it was on CBN, Christian broadcasting network. Instead of hearing a snippet of negativity, I got a snippet of encouragement!

I thought about the power of the tongue and how it affects our thoughts. 2 Corinthians 10: 5, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." You cannot listen to news all day and keep the faith! You will get a victory a lot sooner laughing and being encouraged than being mad. The devil doesn't want your stuff, he wants your joy and he will try to make you mad.

Not only do we have to be careful what we listen to, we have to control our tongue. Being able to control our tongue is a sign of spiritual maturity. James 3: 2, "We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check." This includes gossip. Proverbs 20: 19, "A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much." Proverbs 26: 22, "The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts."

"Misery loves good company, so if you are surrounded with drama, gossip and fools you may want to consider that you are presently at risk of becoming one of them."
