Peace Like A Pond

Remember the song, "Peace Like A River"? "I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river in my soul." Then it goes on to use "ocean" which is definitely a peaceful place for me. I sit on my front porch and enjoy the pond, watching a mother duck and her ducklings. She only has five ducklings now which makes me sad. She is so protective of her babies always fighting off the crows.

She is such a good mother! She has to be on constant watch for something trying to come from over, under, beside or behind her to get her babies. She keeps them together and while they play, she goes in a circle being aware of her surroundings. I would be crazy and live in fear if I was her. There is a lot to learn from God's creation. And He loves us more than them! Matthew 6: 26, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

In this world, many of us are aware of our surroundings and it would be easy to live in fear, especially if we don't have the peace of Jesus. Jesus gives that peace that makes no sense at all! Philippians 4: 7, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." We cannot even understand this kind of peace. Isaiah 55: 8-9, "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'" God is still in control and just like the mother duck spreading her wings to protect her babies, God puts His protective covering over us and our loved ones. Matthew 23: 37, "...I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings..." If you need peace, sit and be still, in His creation knowing that God is God. Have peace like a river, peace like an ocean or peace like a pond!
