Part of the Family

In a gospel service we sang, “The Family of God” by the Gaithers. I love the words to this song. “For I'm part of the family The family of God You will notice we say brother And sister 'round here It's because we're a family And these folks are so near When one has a heartache We all share the tears And rejoice in each victory In this family so dear...”

As Christians, we are all part of the family of God. John 1: 12-13, “ Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” We feel a sense of belonging. We are loved, cherished and fully forgiven. As Christians, God has adopted us into His family and we are God’s beloved children. 1 John 3: 1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

I thought about all of the brothers and sisters I have including you! We all need to have Christian friends to help hold us accountable. I am involved with a group of ladies on Wednesday nights and many of them got out of their comfort zones to meet new people. God’s family is often more deeply connected than other relationships, even families. We share a spiritual unity through Jesus! Our class is more than friends, we are like sisters. We may not have picked each other, we may not hang out and we may have nothing in common, but our bond is special. We really are family. “We are family. I’ve got all my sisters and me!”
