Ocean Devotion

I found this article on FaceBook and I think I could have written it. "Have you ever wondered why you feel energized after going to the beach?  Several studies from the United States and Britain found out that the beach improves happiness, well-being, and even the brain function of an individual. This finding is supported by the research by Kobe University that residents in Japan who live in a house with a view of the ocean are calmer and more peaceful than those who live in the urban jungle.  Similar findings are found by Health Place claiming that Brits who live by the coast report better physical and mental health." It goes on to say that sea water contains magnesium, potassium, and iodine that are natural disinfectant. Inhaling the sea air also has respiratory benefits that result in a good night’s sleep. The sound of the waves slows down our nervous system and promotes relaxation."

Growing up, anything physical thing that was wrong my dad believed that salt water would heal. I have to agree - physically, emotionally and spiritually for me. I think I write about this a lot! That is why I love the beach so much! A day at the beach significantly reduces my stress level! Water is another natural stress reducer for me. I always feel so good whenever I have been on the beach! The beach relaxes me! For me, the sounds of the waves and the smell of salt air all help me relax. It helps me leave all of the problems behind. It puts everything into a new perspective and gives me a more positive attitude.

So why is this? Because I have never been to the beach that I did not see God! I believe God created it and He wants us to enjoy His creations. John 1: 3, "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." Job 12: 7-10, "But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." When we sit and acknowledge His creation, we feel closer to Him. Romans 1: 20, "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." We are reminded Who and Whose we are! Psalm 104: 24-25, "How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small."

Any time I go to the beach it is like a live devotional. I see God, I feel God's presence, I see His works and I know He is with me. Isaiah 40: 12, "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand..." The one who held the ocean in His hand claims me as His child. He loves me and will never leave me. I am His beloved. I love my outdoor devotions!
