Never Satisfied

Joyce Meyer said there is a new store in New York City called the "Husband Store". It is six floors and you shop for a husband. You can only visit each floor once and the value increases as you go up. You can go up but you cannot come back down. There was a woman who went to find a husband. The first floor sign read, "These men have jobs." That sounded good but she was going on. Second floor sign read, " These men have jobs and love kids." Good but let's go up. Third floor sign read, "These men have jobs, love kids and are extremely good looking! Wow, this looks good but I'm going on up. Fourth floor sign read, "These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking and help with housework." Mercy me, this is getting good. What will the fifth floor have? Fifth floor sign read, ""These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, help with housework and have a strong romantic streak." At this point she could not stand it and had to see what was on the top floor! Sixth floor sign read, "You are visitor number 31,456,000. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please!"

That is funny but do you know how many women think a man will make them happy? Or how many people think another person will make them happy? Only one man will make us happy and that is Jesus Christ! We have a God sized hole that only He can fill! Ecclesiastes 3: 11, "...He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." God made us to ponder eternity and the truth that there is something more after death. Nothing on this earth, no matter how enticing, will ever be enough. Only the One Who created us can make us fully satisfied.

We were made to have a spiritual thirst that cannot be quenched by anything but Jesus. Just like drinking water can only temporarily quench our physical thirst, we can spend our whole life making more money, looking better and younger, building our reputations but this will only frustrate us and burn us out and we will be dying of thirst. John 4: 13-14, "Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.'"

If you are a Christian, and you are seeking satisfaction in something other than Jesus, talk to Jesus and ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit and guide you. He will. Matthew 7: 7-8, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." If you are not a Christian, is what you are seeking quenching your spiritual thirst? Does it bring eternal life? If not, repent of your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart as your Lord and Savior and find meaning, purpose and eternal life!

There are other times that we feel raw, tired and weary. During most of those times we put on that smile and kept doing life. We are trying to get ahead at work. Trying to get things done at home.
