My Father Carried Me

When I was a little girl my father often carried me in from the car. If we were on a trip and it was late Dad would not wake me up but just carry me to my bed. I remember being at my grandmothers when the late night card games would go on and we would fall asleep on the floor and Dad would carry us to bed. When I was at the beach and the sand was too hot Dad would carry me. Sometimes I would ask to be carried and often times I would not have to ask. He knew what I needed!

It is the same with my Heavenly Father! He often carries me for short trips, long trips, a few minutes, an hour, a day, when things get too hot....whatever is needed! I am so thankful that I can go to Him and ask Him to just pick me up and carry me. Sometimes life is just too much and we do not think we can do it alone. We can't! That is when He can carry us. And sometimes we are so weary that we do not even ask Him to carry us but He has already picked us up. We are His precious children and He loves us and cares for us!

This probably reminds you of the many framed cross stitch pictures of the poem, Footprints In The Sand". It talks about our life as two sets of footprints in the sand on a beach. One set of footprints is ours; the other set is Jesus’. At times of our life there is only one set of footprints. The person in the poem thinks Jesus has abandoned them at that time in their life. Jesus corrects them saying there is only one set of footprints because those were the tough times when He carried them.

There are so many verses in the Bible about God's promises to carry us. Isaiah 40: 11, " He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young." He will carry us when we are young and He will carry our young ones. Isaiah 46: 4, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." What a comfort to know God will carry us when we are young and when we are old.

Deuteronomy 1: 31, "...and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place." When we are weak God will carry us and fight our battles for us. Deuteronomy 32: 11, "...like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft." And those times that we cannot go on He will carry us. God is faithful to his promises. He will carry us through this life.

The last time Jesus will carry us will be when He carries us to be with Him in Heaven!

When did God last carry you? Can you picture Him carrying you into Heaven?
