I know there are people, especially females, who want to hide their age - at any cost. My journey has a lot to do with my attitude about aging. It is really simple, you age or die. Embrace this thing because you are blessed to be here. My husband laughs that I am in denial because I don't believe I am as old as I am. It has gone way too quick!
Today, I am at mile marker 59, one year away from a milestone birthday and I am so grateful, thankful and excited! Dad told me, “you are as old as you feel.” Our faith in God, our lifestyle and our attitude play a part in our aging process. I believe joy and peace, from God, shows on people's physical appearance. Through this journey of ups and downs, fears and worries, joys and pains and hopes and dreams, He has wasted nothing. I thank Him for the hard times that help my family and I grow. I am grateful for God’s mercies every day, His steadfast love that endures forever and the presence of the Holy Spirit. I am, especially, thankful for the gift of salvation, given so freely, that allows me to experience life the way God intended.
Birthdays are a time to reflect on God’s goodness in our life. We should celebrate our birthday like we are 10 years old, full of joy and excited about the coming year! We should shift our focus from fear of aging to the rich, full lives that God wants for us. Showing grace and goodness is a lot more attractive than fear and resistance. As we age, we see life as God has planned for us. Proverbs 16: 31, “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.” The longer we live the more wisdom and perspective we gain to see life in new and beautiful ways. Thanks be to God for our birthdays! God wants you to celebrate it!
Don’t forget to laugh! Proverbs 17: 22, “"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." Thank God for laughter!
Things You Say After 50:
Where is my phone?
How did I get this bruise?
How do they expect you to read this small print?
I don’t care if it is fashionable, it is comfortable!
Who is calling at 9:30?
How do you throw your body out of whack just sleeping wrong?
You know you’re growing older when….
your knees buckle and your belt won’t.
you’re 17 around the neck and 42 around the waist.
you paint the town red and take a long rest before applying a second coat.
you are burning the midnight oil at 9 p.m.
your back goes out more than you do.
the little gray-haired lady you help across the street is your wife.
