When I go to bed I turn all my concerns over to God and go right to sleep. For years, if I got up around 4:am my burdens would come alive! While I knew and believed God could take care of this, there was something about letting things snowball in the dark. I was burdened. Matthew 11: 28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” I was burdened. Finally, I would thank God for taking care of the situation and giving me peace. 1 Thessalonians 5: 18, "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." Then God's peace would come over me and I would fall back to sleep.
Someone told me when I wake up and a negative thought creeps in, immediately, tell God that you cannot handle it and you are handing it to Him. I would have to do that every minute for a while but now, for years, it has not been an issue. Now when I lie down I just thank Him for my blessings for that day. I do not ask for anything, I just praise Him. I fall asleep praising God and that makes for good sleep! Psalm 127: 2, "In vain you rise early and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves."
I love how the psalmists saw night time. They had a lot to worry about but they trusted God Psalm 104: 20, "You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl." They knew the moon and stars testified to God's power. Psalm 136: 9, "...the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever." Psalm 78: 14, "He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night." Psalm 105: 39, "He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night." They saw God even in the darkest nights! They said night was as bright as day because He was the King over darkness. Psalm 74: 16, "The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon." God is our Light and He is a Light to the world, even at night!
