Live Life Now!

When I was little I remember seeing people's living room furniture covered in plastic. And their lampshades still had the plastic on them! I always thought that was so funny. Even as a little girl it never made sense to me. They were still going to have to dust the plastic on the lamp shade! And as an adult I never used my china. I always saved it for special occasions.

When Mom and Dad moved from the beach, the people who bought their house was going to use it as a second home. They asked Mom to leave anything she did not want to keep which worked out well for both parties. We decided to leave all of her dishes and start enjoying her fine china. That was the smartest thing we did. Recently, I got rid of my "everyday" china and started using the good stuff! Why not? Why have it if I can never enjoy it? Most kids do not even want china anymore and our generation has our mothers and our grandmothers.

You probably know people who are going to enjoy life when....they get married, quit work, have children, their children grow up, they retire, etc. God wants us to enjoy life now...not "when"! John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." God wants us to enjoy our life! Live our life with abundant joy!

We find ourselves looking to "get through" something. If I can just get through this next task, if I can just get through next week's meeting, and the list goes on. When we are doing this we are missing on what God has planned for the present. When we are focusing on God we are not focusing on the problems in our life. While we are making plans today, for tomorrow, I am sure God is thinking, "do not boast about tomorrow. Live for today." James 4: 13-14, "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

When we stay "busy" all the time we are not enjoying life. The sad part of that is that we are not attracting others to God. If we are grumbling and exhausted it does not make a relationship with God look attractive! We cannot let our circumstances dictate our life. We must keep our focus on God's Word. We must keep our focus on His love for us.

Ecclesiastes 8: 15, "So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun."

Psalm 118: 24, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (ESV)

Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is the special occasion! Celebrate today and enjoy life!
