Recently, I read, "vote like your life depends on it." I know you could interpret it different ways but today I am wanting us to think about our life as a child of God. No matter who wins the election I know one thing for sure: God will remain the same! He never changes. He is a Constant! God is Good! Many are great. Many are able. But no one is good like God.
I thought of telling my daughter, Sarah, bye recently as she returned to Oregon. She lives and works close to the wild fires and I worried about her breathing. Even inside of her house smelled like smoke! Again, this was a situation out of my control! God led me to Ephesians 3: 14-20, "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
No matter what happens in this dark and broken world, I will be ok! When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan I am overwhelmed! He is the Creator of everything, what do I have to worry about? He has unlimited resources - unlimited - things we could never even think of, let alone get! I love the NKJV translation of Ephesians 3: 20, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us..." Exceedingly, abundantly above! Wow! I am reminded of the quote, "When God pushes you to the edge of difficulty trust Him fully because two things can happen. Either He will catch you when you fall or He will teach you how to fly."
He gives us strength to get through tough times. Psalm 46: 1, "God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble." The more we lean on God during these hard times, the more we learn to trust Him. The more at home we are with Him. The more we begin to get a glimpse of just how much He loves us! Romans 5: 8, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." When we accept this love we are filled with joy. Romans 15: 13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Our negative circumstances seem to diminish as God gives us His peace. Philippians 4: 7, "...and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
And not only do we feel better but then God can use us in a powerful way. He can get more done that we can ever imagine! All we have to do is trust Him. And trust His promises! My life depends on God and no one else! His grace is sufficient! Psalm 136: 26, "Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever."
