Let Your Love Flow

This weekend I was sitting in the sparkling salt water across from my mom who was in her float. The sun was beaming down on the water. You could hear Mike and friends on the beach having fun. Part of the family were on the boat snacking and chatting. We were all together to celebrate Mom's upcoming birthday. The boat down from us played our kind of music and it was loud enough that we enjoyed it. I realized that an old song by the Bellamy Brothers was playing, "Let Your Love Flow", The words are, "There's a reason For the sunshiney day. There's a reason Why I'm feelin' so high. Must be the season When that love light shines all around us. So let that feeling Grab you deep inside And send you reeling." I was feeling gracious for this sunshiney day. My heart was so full! And I was feeling high with all the love around me. I need to be reminded to grab on to that feeling and hold on to it. Later in the song it says to, "let your love show" and then, "let your love shine."

Isn't that why we are here? To let our love flow and shine Jesus to all. Matthew 5: 14-16, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Notice it does not say we OUGHT to be the light. It says, "you ARE the light..." We shine by doing good works that glorify God.

God is not calling the smartest, most talented, most influential, most articulate. God is calling the servant hearted. These loving people find God's steadfast love is better than life! Psalm 63: 3, "Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you." We are ambassadors of the Lord and we represent God in this world. We show and share the grace that was granted to us. The works we do in Jesus’s name bear witness about us and about him. We have to be different. Our lives, our relationships, our homes, all, have to be different in this desperate world.

We are told, "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds..." We can do things that help people and honor God. God created us to glorify Him. We do not do good works to be seen or praised. We do good works so that those around us - and ourselves- will give glory to our Father in Heaven. Matthew 6: 1, "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in Heaven."

So how do we shine this light? The answer is in 2 Corinthians 4: 6, "For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ." God passes the light to and through us! Let's do like we sang when we were little, "this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!"

Are you shining your light?

I was facilitating a small group when people were telling what our church meant to them. Most were saying, it’s a big church with a small church feel; it’s friendly, It’s generous. Someone spoke up

"A boy asked his Dad, ‘Dad, how big is God?' Looking up at the sky his father saw an airplane and asked his son, 'How big is that airplane?' The boy responded, 'It's small, Dad! You can hardly even
