Less of Ourselves

Humility is not humiliation but I think sometimes they get confused. "Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less." I love that! According to the Bible we are to have a spirit of humility and that comes from trusting God with our future. His ways and plans are best. Isaiah 55: 8-9, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Pride is dangerous. It is easy to hunger for recognition and want to be valued by others. Philippians 2: 3, "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." We are not self sufficient, we depend on God for everything! I think humility and peace are intertwined. Jesus said, "happy are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5 says meekness is a "poised humility, a quiet confidence generated out of trusting something to be true." When we trust Jesus as the Lord of our life we have something strong and true, a guide for life that is strong and stable.

Maybe God is using humbling circumstances to get you to a place of unshakable trust in Him. If God sees big things in your future, He must remove all hints of pride. "Even if pride is but a tiny thorn in your heart now, when you’re given a bigger position with more recognition, that pride grows from a thorn to a dagger with the potential to kill your calling.” God is preparing us for what is just ahead! Let's think less of ourselves and think of ourselves less!
