Leaving A Legacy of Love

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

I recently got an email sharing the following. “Thank you so much for today’s blog… ‘How Great Thou Art’ is also a song that I hold so very dear to my heart. My Grandmother played the piano in her church and was such a holy woman that she had people come to her home to pray for them. This song was one she played every time we went for a visit. I learned that she taught herself to play. Her step-mother wouldn’t let her take lessons, but yet God gave her the talent….Her songs and her talks to me and my cousins about her faith and how God was such a big part of her life opened our eyes to seeing such a loving Father that we felt that overwhelming love surround us with every story she told us…”

She remembers her grandmother as “grace, God-loving and musically gifted all packed into one. I always felt closer to God whenever I was in her presence. She is now teaching her grandsons the importance of God in their lives and in the choices they make. 2 Timothy 1: 5, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

The faith of a grandparent can change a life and a generation of lives. Not only are grandchildren a blessing to their grandparents but they are to be blessed by their grandparents. Grandparents, bless your grandchildren with a legacy of love for God. Never underestimate the power of faith to make an impact over generations! Happy Grandparent’s day!
