It's Easier to Preach a Sermon than Live It

I read it is easier to preach ten sermons than to live one. I totally agree that it is easier to write ten blogs or give ten talks than to live one! When I first read that quote I immediately thought of my sin. I am sure there are people who wonder why I am writing a Christian blog. Then I thought of someone I know who was a book of knowledge about the Bible and I was impressed until I realized this person had no peace. It was all head knowledge and needed to move 18 inches to the heart.

We forget even the devil knows scripture. Our sins are a bad witness but what about our lack of faith and peace? It is our faith, during tough times, that witness to others. I was having a meltdown today and really having to trust God. I can write blogs every day but every hour I am having to apply scripture to my heart. Jesus criticized the scribes and Pharisees for studying the Law without applying it to their lives. Matthew 23: 27-28, Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones . . . you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

We are reminded in Proverbs 4:23 to “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” If we want to apply the scripture to our life we must meditate, contemplate and ponder specific verses until they affect us. Then our mind can put the Bible into practice as we learn to grow in our faith, trusting God's promises and obeying His commands.
