I heard this recently and it stopped me in my tracks. How often do we use God as our emergency contact? For years I did. Even if we take a day "break" from God we use Him as an emergency contact. If I get out of my routine of exercising for one day, it is easier to miss the next. If I miss a week, for any reason, I am out of the habit and it is easy not to go back.
We can turn anything into a god because we are making it more important than God! It could be as simple as sleeping in or scrolling on social media instead of spending time with God. Deuteronomy 8: 18-20, "But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God."
If I forget to put on my jewelry I may even go back to "finish dressing" but if I forget to read my devotional I will "catch it later." Jeremiah 2: 32, "Does a young woman forget her jewelry,
a bride her wedding ornaments? Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number." If I miss time with God I should be afraid of the anointing being lifted. Forgetting God leads to unbelief and rebellion. Our nation is a good example of that. God wants us to seek Him as a vital necessity, not as a luxury!
Most parents want to see their children. They miss them greatly when they are not around. We are God's children and He wants us with Him all of the time! He should be our number one contact!
