I've Got The Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy...
Someone posted a sweet story on Facebook that made me think. It was about an older lady who said, “Old age is like a bank account, you withdraw from what you’ve put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories. She went on to say there are five simple rules to be happy: 1. Free your heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3. Live simply. 4. Give more. 5. Expect less. I think there is a lot of truth to this but I say let's take it to the next level.
Psalm 100 "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his, we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."
Happiness is a fleeting emotion and joy is an all knowing that we have Jesus on our side and we are going to be ok....no matter what. Happiness is a state of mind, while joy is a mind-set. Happiness is fleeting but joy is a constant. Happiness is conditional, while joy is unconditional.
"Shout for joy to the Lord...". When was the last time you shouted like you were at your favorite teams ball game because you read a meaningful Scripture? I haven't but we should feel some excitement. At least a little joy! God does supernatural things! God does things we could never think of! God comes to our rescue when we do not even know we need to be rescued! He wants us to lift up our voice in praise!
Through the years I have heard ministers say that when they look out at the congregation the people look unhappy. Even while they are singing. We are to go to church to worship. "Serve the Lord with gladness." We should look like we are happy to be there. Our motivation should not be guilt ridden. When we serve others we are serving God. You may not feel like serving but we are to serve anyway....gladness will follow. Serving God will give us peace that surpasses understanding.
"Come before Him with joyful singing." We are to rejoice in His presence! That is easy when we stop to think that the King of Kings loves us. He wants a relationship with us! Serving God is the greatest privilege we have in this life and it will give us the greatest joy we will know in this life!
Let's ask God to help us have more joy in life so that we can share that joy with others! So that we can shout for joy to the Lord! We know it will not come from our strength but because God will help us. Because this life and our emotions are fleeting the only real constant is God! Let's deposit a lot of joy in our hearts.
Are you depositing joy in your heart?
