I'm Not Who I Used To Be

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

I was telling a friend what some people, from my past, must think when they see my blogs or read that I am in ministry. She laughed about some, from her past, seeing on social media that she got baptized. She said they probably thought the water was boiling! We know how each other feels but we also know the truth and the truth is we are not who we used to be! Hopefully they think, if He can use her, then He can use me!

When we accepted Jesus' free gift of salvation, asking Him to forgive us and come into our heart, we were new creations. 2 Corinthians 5: 17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" 1 Peter 2:9, reminds us of a promise from Heaven. "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." We are not who we were! We are not what we may feel. We are His! We are a child of God! We are His beloved!

We have been chosen by God into His family! Mercy has made us new! John Newton said it this way. "I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I want to be, I am not what I hope to be in another world; but still I am not what I once used to be, and by the grace of God I am what I am.” Here's our plan, whenever we feel overwhelmed, remember whose daughter we are and straighten our crown.
