Last night after church I drove Mom home and we were so excited we chatted the whole way saying how glad we have two more nights of revival! I was in the car by myself as I drove home so I turned the stereo up real loud. The radio happened to be on 70's on 7 and I heard, "I got a notion He's causin' commotion in my soul!!" Remember, "Nice To Be With You" by Gallery? Some of the words are, "Oh, it's so nice to be with you.....you and me have got somethin' that's real. I know it's gonna last a lifetime." First thing I thought of when I heard, "I got a notion He's causin' commotion in my soul" was they were talking about the Holy Spirit. And I am going to have Him for a lifetime! I sang (real loud cause no one was around) thinking how the Holy Spirit caused a commotion in souls tonight! When you've got a notion He's causin' commotion you know you have been to a successful revival!
Our gym was packed and I stayed quiet and just listened for a moment to all of the people singing. No not singing, worshiping. A heavenly choir could not have been more joyful! And that is what I have witnessed in our gym the last month of Sundays! God is working! The guest minister tonight said we have a gift in having a church that truly knows how to worship. I never thought about that before but it is a gift and I am blessed by regular worship!
Yesterday had been so difficult that I wanted to go to church just to get my mind off of everything. When the music started I told God it was His time. I was not thinking about anything else. Just focusing on Him. Hebrews 4: 16, "Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." What does it mean "with confidence"? After today, had I not made it totally about God, I surely would not have approached Him with confidence! I would not feel worthy. I would have let my burdens weigh me down.
Psalm 45: 1, "My heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness. I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words:" (MSG) Our worship is what is going on in our heart.
Worship is not about us getting our needs met. It is about God. While singing is a big part of worship God also wants us to hear His Word. God reveals Himself to us through His Word.
I believe being in the worshipful atmosphere flows over into our daily lives. I went there heavy burdened and came home feeling it was well with my soul. My circumstances have not changed but my focus has. I am reminded Who and Whose I am and He revived me! Psalm 16: 7, "I will bless the Lord, who has given me counsel; yes, my heart instructs me in the night." (AMP) I came home feeling like my hearts could "burst, spilling beauty and goodness."
Many of us worship our work, our play, sports, shopping, etc. Jesus is worthy of Worship! Worship is simply preparing ourselves to come face to face with Jesus and heart to heart with Jesus. When was the last time you truly worshiped God?
Thank you for all of your posts Jill, God has really blessed you and I am so glad I am a recipient of them all :)
