"I Beat You"

Writer: Jill Jarrell NewsomeJill Jarrell Newsome

I got an email letting my mom know that her friend had passed away that night. I was shocked. These friends were so good to mom and visited her. The daughter was sending the message and went on to say that she understood her Dad and my mom had a special friendship, "so I hope it makes her smile to hear that Dad had a message for her. His message to Mom was, "I beat you!" Through tears Mom smiled. What a precious gift she was given. A friend thinking of you, at the end, and knowing they will see you later!

Mom and her friends had talked often about being ready to go to Heaven. They knew Mom has been ready to go but her friend got their first. While it doesn't make our grief any less, we can have joy in the knowing that they were ready for their change of address. And they know where they are going! What peace that gives to the family in their time of grief and after. May we all leave our friends with a smile, when we pass, and a message saying, "I beat you!"

As Billy Graham said, "salvation isn't ours until we accept it." Prayer of salvation: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
