I am constantly bothered by the language on many of the television shows. Most of the time it is a great show and the language has no impact to help the show. Why is it so accepted? The other night in the fist sentence I was appalled at the number of times I was offended. Even commercials are out of control. You know the ones I am talking about. I am embarrassed by our media. And when did it start? It seems in the last five years it has sky rocketed toward sin!
I was reading a devotional recently and it was about God's Word and how it does not change. Then I heard a speaker say, "God's standards do not change!" We should be so ashamed as a society for how our standards have changed. I am constantly surprised at how people feel they can use any language in front of anybody. It is so sad that we show no respect to others.
No one has to teach disobedience, it's human nature. All have sinned - and we all have fallen short. Romans 3: 23, "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,..." Sin spreads quickly and before we know it we are in the midst of it. It is important who our friends are. We want to be around people who bring out the best in us. Why are we accepting bad language? Do we talk like others do when we are around them? I know several people who use bad language but when I am around they clean it up. I appreciate that and believe they have noticed that I do not talk like that. I think some people do not even realize what they are saying - it is a habit. The best thing I think we can do is be a good example. Do not fuss at them and do not join them in that kind of talk. And before we start judging we better think about the log in our eye! Matthew 7: 5, "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
What God calls sin is still sin! And we are all full of it. There are no big and small sins. Sin is sin. We have let Satan deceive us if we believe that it is ok. God's standards have not changed and there will still be consequences to sin. Matthew 12: 31-32, "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." It seems I hear blasphemy against the Spirit quite often. This is serious stuff! Are we being a good example for others? Some of these things we are seeing on television is sin. They can call it something else but when God called it sin, it was sin. It is still sin.
We are warned in the Bible. Romans 12: 2, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Let's not ignore this sin. Let's bring it to Jesus. Let's ask for His forgiveness and to remove the sin in our lives. Let's ask Him to let us be good influences on other's through our actions. Let's ask Him to protect us from this sin. Psalm 51: 9-10, "Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."
The only cure to sin is through Jesus Christ. God sent Jesus on a rescue mission to save us. Jesus knew he would be nailed to a tree. God poured our sins on His Son. He bled for you and me. He died and was buried but the third day he rose. He is on the right hand of His Father - right now! All we have to do is repent, turn from our sin, and ask Jesus to forgive us. Through Jesus Christ we can have a new life and a new beginning!
Society's standards may have changed but God's have not! And never will! He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow! While we cannot change others we can be a good influence and show the love of Christ.
